My work explores the contrast between the flowing curves of a traditional ceramic jar and the straight lines found in chaekgado (paintings of books and scholar’s items) in Korean folk art. The curved form and straight-line decoration create a dynamic, three-dimensional effect that changes with the viewer’s perspective due to the piece’s intentional deformation and distortion. The unglazed exterior further enhances the visual impact, balancing the softness of the curves with the straight lines. This combination sparks curiosity, evoking both discomfort and beauty, resulting in a uniquely finished piece.
