Park Song-guk was born and raised in Japan as a third-generation Korean-Japanese. His fascination with ceramics began during a trip to Korea in 2006, when he was captivated by the exquisite pieces he encountered at the local museums. He then pursued a degree in ceramics at Hongik University’s Department of Ceramics and Glass. Since graduating, he has gained various experiences through domestic residency programs and overseas workshops. He is currently working at his workshop in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do.
The inspiration for this work comes from hanji (traditional Korean paper made from the bark of the mulberry tree), focusing on its simple, natural texture and the bending properties of clay when thinned. By pounding the clay thin, the density is compacted to increase strength, while subtle curves emerge under the influence of hand pressure, dry conditions, and high firing temperatures, creating unintended natural "lines."
