Kim Soon-sik majored in painting and served as a researcher at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Research Institute in China, as well as a member of the China Ancient Blue and White Porcelain Research Committee (a study of high-level Chinese craft art). He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions at various venues, and is actively engaged in both domestic and international art activities.
His work is often described as having a strong artistic innovation that bridges the gap between painting and ceramics. His favorite subjects often include animals, such as the donkey. The 'blue' in his blue-and-white porcelain is an endlessly expansive color. The artist imagines the donkey soaring through the distant blue sky with wings, symbolizing dreams and hope, and projects himself onto this vision. Occasionally, gold and silver are also incorporated into his works, as complementary colors to cobalt blue.
