Park Young-ho was born in Cheongju, South Korea, a city renowned for its vibrant craft traditions. From a young age, he aspired to become a craftsman, motivated by the creativity surrounding him. After majoring in Craft Design, Young-ho achieved a significant milestone by winning the main prize at the prestigious Cheongju Craft Biennale, an esteemed international event held in his hometown. This accolade marked the beginning of his career journey as an artisan. Currently, he serves as a resident artisan at the Korean Crafts Center in Cheongju, where he also trains the next generation of craftsman.
One of his notable series Drop, reflects his artistic philosophy. Inspired by the way ink disperses in water, Young-ho captures the essence of how memories blur and fade over time. He explores the concept that memories do not vanish abruptly, but rather dissipate gradually with less frequent recall. The design of Drop III features a shape that connects the beginning and the end, embodying the desire to preserve precious memories. Young-ho believes that even static pieces can possess a dynamic quality, resonating deeply with the audience.
To him, a truly successful work of art is one that feels alive, capturing and holding the viewer's attention. He strives to create pieces that encapsulate this lively energy, ensuring that each work is vibrant and compelling. Through his artistry, Young-ho Park invites viewers to engage with their own memories, fostering a connection that transcends the visual.
