The pottery workshop 'Jigangdoyo' (之江陶窯) in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, has been established for over 40 years and is run by master potter Kim Pan-gi. The name 'Jigangdoyo' conveys the meaning of living a life as gentle and free-flowing as a river, and creating works without haste, with dignity. While studying to enter an art college, Kim first encountered celadon at the National Museum of Korea and was immediately captivated by it. At the age of 25, he boarded a bus to Icheon, with nothing but a backpack, and began learning ceramics at various workshops.
Now, 40 years later, Kim Pan-ki has become a master of ceramics, creating both celadon and white porcelain. His representative works include celadon with comb patterns and a variety of white porcelain pieces. Rather than focusing on extravagant decorations and colors, his work emphasizes the inherent beauty of the clay and the uniqueness of the glaze.
