Lee Song-Am

Lee Song-Am's journey into pottery began during his high school years. After ten years of dedicated research, experimentation, and occasional failures, he remains deeply committed to continuous learning in the art of pottery.

In his creative process, Lee eschews sketching or note-taking. Instead, he envisions images or concepts in his mind and then brings them to life on the wheel.

The predominant black in his work is a deliberate choice. Lee finds that black most powerfully reveals the form and silhouette of his pieces while also serving as a medium to convey an elusive inner vision. His signature deep black is especially captivating on the meticulously trimmed surfaces of his pots.

Lee's technique involves starting on the wheel and then skillfully trimming and twisting the pot's body. This approach results in distinctive, unconventional shapes that reflect the refined elegance of Goryeo and Joseon ceramics, all beautifully enhanced by a rich black glaze.
