Shin Sang-ho b. 1947

Shin Sang-ho is a distinguished ceramic artist, widely recognized for his contributions to contemporary ceramics. His works are celebrated for their fusion of traditional Korean techniques and modern artistic expression, earning him both national and international acclaim.

Born in Seoul, Shin developed an early interest in ceramics while studying at Hongik University’s Department of Crafts. His formative years in ceramics were shaped by traditional, manual methods, including wood-fired kilns and hand-crafted tools, an experience that became the foundation of his work. Shin’s early artistic development was deeply influenced by buncheong ware, celadon, and Joseon white porcelain, which are hallmarks of Korean ceramic heritage.

Throughout his career, Shin has explored a wide range of ceramic forms, with notable series such as the “Dream” series (1995)  and “The Dream of Africa” series (2002), which incorporate elements of traditional Asian aesthetics alongside abstract patterns and vibrant colors inspired by his travels.
